Does Chromium Burn Fat

Does Chromium Burn Fat

Chromium is a mineral, also described as an essential trace element. It comes in two main forms, hexavalent and trivalent. Hexavalent is the form that is used in pigments, dyes, plastics, and ink.

It is not safe to handle directly and can cause skin irritations. Hexavalent chromium is one of the strongest minerals on earth. It is toxic and cannot be safely absorbed. It is to be avoided unless in industrial use.

Trivalent is the form that is found in healthy foods. It is the form that our bodies need. Our bodies are not able to produce chromium and must consume an outside source.

It is a trace element because we do not need much of it to perform that tasks it is designed to do. The lack of chromium can affect the ability to lose weight.

Chromium weight loss

How Can Chromium Help with Weight Loss?

There are people who workout and see little to no results. Your workout regimen may not be the cause. There may be a deeper cause at the cellular level.

One common problem is insulin resistance. Insulin resistance can lead to a prediabetic state and eventually type two diabetes. One of the major causes is the lack of chromium in the diet.

A healthy diet always accompanies an exercise regimen. It is great to be healthy. More importantly, it is essential to provide the nutrients your body needs.

When the body has the correct nutritional balance, it can perform at optimal levels. Good fuel helps to repair the muscles. It can also reduce hunger. Getting the correct nutrients may cause the body to stop seeking food to fill the void.

Chromium is one of the essential nutrients that the body needs. Eating healthy food is good. It is pointless if the body is unable to utilize it for energy. Chromium has a specific job to do with this process.

When we eat our digestive system turns the food into glucose. The glucose is the main fuel source of every cell in our bodies. Once it is broken down, it is then sent into the bloodstream to feed our cells.

The pancreas produces insulin to help the cells absorb the glucose. The job of insulin is to get the glucose out of the bloodstream inside the cell. More glucose in the bloodstream increases the amount of insulin needed to process it. Insulin spikes happen whenever we eat to regulate the amount of glucose in our circulating through the blood.

Too much glucose in the blood can cause damage to the blood vessels. It causes oxidative stress. This type of damage may lead to atherosclerosis. It is the reason that persons with diabetes are at an increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

Excess circulatory glucose may also damage nerves. It is the reason that persons with uncontrolled diabetes experiences neuropathy. The glucose cuts off the ability nerves' ability to send signals.

Insulin and chromium work with other elements to prevent such damage. They both must function properly to prevent the destruction that free glucose may cause. They depend on each other to get the job done.

Once the glucose lines up with a cell, it waits to enter. The insulin comes along and opens the door so that the glucose can enter. It is at this moment that chromium goes to work.

Chromium binds to the glucose transporter and pushes the glucose into the door. If there is no chromium or not enough in the body, the glucose just continues to sit at the door. It floats around the bloodstream waiting to enter. The body will eventually downgrade the receptor.

When more food is ingested, more glucose is made. The problem is compounded. The body thinks it does not have enough insulin to open the door for the glucose. The pancreas receives the signal. It makes more.

The increase of insulin in the blood stream sends a signal that increases the need for more glucose. The person craves sugar to correct the balance. When more sugar is eaten, more insulin is produced.

It is a vicious cycle. Insulin resistance is a persistent problem with little to no symptoms. It may take a long time before the person knows there is a problem.

The excess insulin in the body performs another task. If the amount of glucose is not reduced by its presence, insulin instructs the body to store it as fat. It is insulin that keeps watch over the fat storage and signals when to release it.

The correct amount of chromium in the body may prevent this vicious cycle from the beginning. If chromium were available, then the insulin would open the door and chromium would assist in escorting it inside. There the glucose would fuel the cells the way it was designed.

The insulin would reduce in the bloodstream because the glucose level would drop back to normal. The craving for sugar and carbohydrates would subside, and weight loss may occur.

Chromium weight loss

What are the Benefits of Chromium?

As discussed above chromium plays an essential role in glucose metabolism. It is also an important part of the balance preventing insulin resistance. Early prevention may greatly reduce the risk of type two diabetes.

Chromium is not easily absorbed. Deficiency has been a problem for many people that do not maintain a healthy diet. It is also a problem with older people that cannot absorb nutrients as efficiently.

Some of the symptoms of deficiency can be:

  • anxiety
  • fatigue
  • problems with blood sugar metabolism
  • altered cholesterol metabolism
  • delayed ability to heal
  • atherosclerosis
  • growth abnormalities in young children

The daily recommended intake of chromium is 25 micrograms. It is present in broccoli, turkey breast, red wine, green beans, and potatoes, to name a few. A healthy diet of lean meats, grains and vegetables may supply the balance needed.

Many would argue that the mineral depletion of the soil, or the processed food industry, has reduced the amount of chromium that is available in our food supply. Even if we made healthy food choices we still may not get the number of nutrients we need. It may be necessary to supplement chromium if this is the suspicion.

Chromium picolinate is the most common form of the supplement. Picolinate, picolinic acid, is a natural chelator. It allows the mineral to absorb better by surrounding it with a series of neutral molecules, which will allow it to pass into the cell membrane. It delivers it safely for the body to utilize it properly.

Chromium also comes in a glycinate. It is not as common to find as picolinate. Chromium glycinate is bound to the amino acid glycine. Which delivers in a similar fashion to picolinate. Glycine is made by the body as part of our DNA.

Another form is chromium nicotinate. Nicotinate is a salt or ester of the B complex vitamins. This form is not as prevalent in stores but may be found online. It contains a form of Niacin.

Picolinate, glycinate, and nicotinate are all delivery systems that assist the chromium's entry into the cell membranes. Without them, the chromium would be prevented from entering due to its positive ionic state. There is no definitive test to prove one superior to the others.

No matter which form is chosen the benefits are the same. Bodybuilders and athletes experience enhanced performance. Persons suffering from type two diabetes or insulin resistance have reported normalizing effects and some cases reversal. Improvements in endothelial function have been reported. In addition, improvements in cholesterol levels, biomarkers for oxidative stress, and atherosclerosis were reported in a 2017 study.

In addition, it has been given to treat acne, polycystic ovarian syndrome, Turner's syndrome, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, reactive hypoglycemia, and in older people to reduce mental decline. Whether choosing chromium for weight loss or other health benefits it is essential to include it in a healthy diet. It is not recommended to take more than 1,000 mcg per day.

If already taking medication for any of the above illnesses or disorders, it is imperative to speak with a physician prior to supplementation. The quantity of food sources is minimal. The supplements are at much higher dosage with delivery systems for better absorption. Higher dosage increases the chance of interactions with medications and other supplements.

Persons taking insulin, or with kidney, liver, or thyroid disease should speak with their physician about the metabolism of the mineral. It may also interact with medications prescribed for these and other conditions.

Interactions with chromium are but not limited to:

  • prednisone
  • levothyroxine
  • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as (ibuprofen, naproxen, and aspirin)
  • antacids or proton pump inhibitors

Make sure that a physician knows about all medications, including supplements, if they are prescribing chromium. It may be taken in supplement form over the counter. It is also used in hospitals to treat severe insulin resistance and uncontrolled hyperglycemia.

An intravenous delivery is employed for urgent treatment for severe diagnosis. Blood glucose has been noted to improve within 12 to 24 hours after treatment. The intravenous form of chromium is chromic chloride.

Chromium can be taken alone. However, it is commonly included in multi-mineral formulations. Some multivitamins may include it as well. If supplementing in a separate dose, check the other supplements to ensure that it is not in excess.

There are no adverse effects from adequate chromium supplementation. The body will only take in enough to replace the deficiency. Taking the supplement with milk or phosphorous-rich foods can reduce absorption.

Chromium is primarily retrieved from a healthy diet. Prolonged use of excessive supplementation has resulted in problems with the liver, kidney, gastrointestinal tract, and the skin in the form of dermatitis. After supplementation has begun, introducing chromium-rich foods should take the place of supplemental chromium over time.

Chromium weight loss

Chromium is an essential part of our diet. It is important for the metabolism and processing of glucose. By enhancing the effectiveness of insulin in the body, the cycle of insulin resistance can be halted.

There is one other benefit to chromium in reducing insulin resistance during weight loss. People that lose weight often have problems with loose skin. When the glucose is metabolized properly, the skin may not reduce at the same rate. Insulin not only opens the door for glucose, but also for protein and amino acids.

Since the insulin was resisted, the building blocks were not able to improve the skin. Collagen production may be reduced, and the skin will lose its elasticity. Before supplementing with collagen or going under the knife, increasing the intake of chromium may put improve the loose skin.

Chromium is not well researched. Some studies have shown improvements. Other studies did not. There is no correlated study yet that has made a conclusive recommendation for specific dosage. There is not an industry standard for adjustment to dosage for the treatment of any conditions. When researching the benefits of chromium there are many conflicting views.

One thing is certain. It is available in most foods. It plays an essential role in the function of metabolism. We cannot live without it. Deficiency in this mineral is connected to illness and disease in many forms. All of which are still being discovered.

In conclusion, chromium is essential to our ability to metabolize carbohydrates, fats, and sugars. There are many other claims that are being studied. The most common use is to regulate blood sugar and resolve insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance has been recently found as a precondition in many illnesses. Alzheimer's disease is, by some, considered type three diabetes. Until recently it was not known that insulin resistance can happen in the brain. It is a precursor to dementia and stroke.

There is also a study involving glaucoma. Chromium has been shown to prevent glaucoma on some levels. More testing needs to be completed for purposes of proving the claim.

Chromium is a great supplement for weight loss and longevity. It is frequently added into the bodybuilding and athletic regimen. Chromium enhances the effectiveness of insulin which in turn regulates amino acid absorption.

When our bodies have the tools it needs to return to a healthy state, it responds. it is not uncommon to see significant weight loss in the first week of a healthy diet that includes chromium. The improvement in metabolic health may shed water and fat more quickly.

2006 Kxf250

2006 Kxf250

Last week, Kawasaki hosted MD and several other journalists at an introduction of the 2006 KX250F motocross bike in Central California at the beautiful Castillo Ranch. The 2006 KX250F is pure Kawasaki — the bike is not shared with Suzuki this year. We gave you all the technical details in our report on June 10, 2005, but it is worth repeating some of the significant changes.

Kawasaki is very proud of the 2006 KX250F. At the intro, a Kawasaki representative stated the KX250F "is the best production motocross bike Kawasaki has ever made." After riding the bike (we will discuss our impressions below), we believe this statement. Kawasaki clearly took the break from Suzuki as an opportunity to throw every technological trick it could at this year's KX250F, and the results are extremely impressive.

Kawasaki pointed out that it has more experience designing and manufacturing perimeter frames for motocross bikes than any other manufacturer. The first perimeter-framed Kawasaki appeared in 1990 . . . more than 15 years ago!

Of course, the 2006 KX250F has an aluminum perimeter frame, rather than one of the steel perimeter frames Kawasaki has become known for. The frame features a combination of castings, forgings and extrusions welded together to form a very strong, but strategically flexing frame. Kawasaki claims it paid close attention to the frame design, and the amount of flex it offers, in order to maximize the handling of the new KX250F.

Another huge change for Kawasaki is the switch to Showa suspension components on the 2006 KX250F. The Showa twin-chamber fork used by Kawasaki has been around for a few years, and has a reputation as the most plush, controlled production fork available. This is apparently the first Kawasaki motocrosser to feature Showa suspension stock.

You might think that a new frame and new suspension would be enough, but Kawasaki tore into the already excellent KX250F motor in search of more power. The stock compression ratio has gone from 12.6:1 to an incredible 13.5:1! The engine also features revised intake and exhaust ports, a new combustion chamber shape, new cams, and revised ignition timing.

Several engine components were beefed up to handle the additional power, including a stronger piston, stronger transmission, stiffer clutch springs and a more rigid, surface-hardened crankshaft. Oil flow to engine parts is increased by nearly 20% as a further guard against mechanical breakdown.

A new radiator is higher in capacity (for cooler running), features more tightly packed cores and is thinner for improved rider ergonomics.

Air box shape and design is critical to making competitive power in the 250F class, and Kawasaki has an all-new air box on the KX250F this year that, according to Kawasaki, results from extensive testing of competing designs. Even the holes in the side panel that allow air flow into the box have been carefully designed and tested to maximize power.

A lighter rear wheel and lighter, wavy brake discs combine with the 2.2 pound lighter aluminum frame to offset additional weight gained with the stronger engine internals. Overall, the KX250F weighs the same as last year's bike.

The 2006 KX250F really is competition ready this year with stock Renthal handlebars and a very trick looking aluminum skid plate standard.

Most of our testing was done by vet pro Russ Somers – now the head of Simpson's motorcycle products division. The Castillo Ranch layout featured thick loam and steep hills — a real challenge for a 250F-class motorcycle. The Kawasaki met that challenge with ease.

Getting to the bottom line, the 2006 KX250F has the most potent motor we have ever tested in this class. At the same time, it has an extremely broad spread of usable power. It is very linear and controllable — but it barks aggressively right off idle, and pulls hard all the way to a strong over-rev. Frankly, the engine performance blew us away.

On this first ride, the rest of the bike was very impressive, as well. The new Showa suspension is extremely well set up. It is plush, controlled, and seems to work for a wide variety of riders (Russ and I are both on the heavy end of the 125-pilot scale!). Although you could occasionally bottom the fork, it had a very good feel with no metal-to-metal clanking. Lighter pilots will probably find the stock spring rates and valving ideal (this bike should work very well for riders in the 150-180 pound range).

The rear wheel stayed hooked-up very well in the thick loam at Castillo Ranch, and contributed to an overall suspension package that was hard to fault. We must note, however, that the Castillo Ranch track lacks the hard, square edges found on many Southern California tracks.

Although the bike is very narrow, and feels light and nimble, it seems to have plenty of room for taller riders (Russ is 6'2″).

The transmission shifted very well under power. The bike jumped well, and the new brakes seemed to offer good feel and excellent power. We had no complaints about the handling — the bike tracked straight and cornered superbly.

What more can we say? Our first impression of the 2006 KX250F is certainly positive. The bike should be available at dealers here in the United States within a week, or so, at a U.S. MSRP of $5,899.

You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0 feed. Both comments and pings are currently closed.

2013 Suzuki V Strom 650 Adventure Review

2013 Suzuki V Strom 650 Adventure Review

What have been looking for in the adventure touring segment, then? To me, the first thing is a bike that feels like India had no hope of breaking it. An utterly, completely indestructible thing. The next is a reasonable spec at a great price. And finally a sense that all your dreams of touring out in the open are now just the push of a starter button away. Welcome to the V-Strom 650 XT ABS. This should be a mild-mannered 650cc twin. But oh my god, it's so much more than that.

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS The 19" front wheel gives the2018 Suzuki 650 XT ABS the ability to blend a serious combination of road ability as well as off-road chops. In either environment, it feels like it will go far without trouble

The engine

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS The 645cc V-twin is a stunner. It pulls cleanly from low revs to redline and feels strong and robust on the 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS

The V-Strom engine has humble origins. It's a fairly basic 90° V-twin that already does duty on various Suzuki 650s, including the well-liked SV650 (hint, Suzuki). On the 2018 model, there has been some retuning but the essentials remain the same. The fuel injection system used SDTV, or dual throttle bodies to smooth out the arrival of power. Suzuki also has an electronic boost at low revs that smooths out riding and helps new riders. This is a smooth, fast motor that feels collected and composed. Like all its parts work together as an awesome team.

Power arrives easily at 2,500rpm and I was able to pull smoothly from 40kmph to somewhere north of 180 in sixth gear. And when I was done with that, the motor remained smooth and torquey at almost any speed I chose. The wide torque spread also means you can easily run a high gear and not change up and a down a lot even in traffic.

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS The plastic engine cowl doesn't have a bottom and is a purely cosmetic addition to the 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS

The slick if muted growl and the lack of vibration in the bars, pegs or the seat make this a rather likeable motorcycle. When you notice how easily it gathers speed, you cannot help but develop a rather large soft spot for the Suzuki.

The gearbox and gearing work rather well. And one of the 'flaws' is that the gearbox can feel peculiar on downchanges. It feels like the lever is moving through loose, gravelly soil although upshifts are smooth and I never ever missed a gear.

Ride, handling and braking

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS

The engine is housed in a fairly basic frame too. You gave an old-school twin-spar frame with non-adjustable front forks and a rear shock with a remote preload adjuster. The V-Strom gets dual-channel ABS as standard with its 310mm twin front discs and the 260mm rear disc.

Suzuki continues to surprise us by offering extremely slick traction control even on smaller bikes like this. The V-Strom has two modes, 1 is for sporty riding and accepts some wheel spin or slip. 2 is for wet or slippery conditions. And you can turn it off, though there isn't a way to turn off ABS at all.

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS left switch set showing the buttons you use to select traction control modes

One of the highlights of the XT model is that sets itself up as a credible off-road capable tour-enduro with its 19" front wheel. The XT spec uses tubeless spoke rims - I look at the Tiger 800 XCx and wonder why that motorcycle, almost twice the price doesn't merit this. This means the Bridgestone Battlax Adventure big block tread tyres are properly tubeless. Which means less of a headache when you have a puncture. Suzuki India says the demand for spoke rims - for this exact reason - was a near constant in their initial surveys.

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS The twin 310mm disc brakes up front do a great job of slowing down the 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS

On the road, each element adds up. I wouldn't call the V-Strom a very large motorcycle in physical dimension. This makes it easy to hop on and get on with riding. Handling is a clean package. It turns quickly enough, is extremely stable at lean angles and never seems to do anything to upset you. That's perfect for the sort of rider who's going to be buying these here.

I do suspect that a slightly softer ride, especially at the front would be more useful in our conditions. But the V-Strom takes big potholes and irregularities in its stride and doesn't make you too uncomfortable.

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS

The stock saddle is a bit stiff and that's a bit of a question mark. I like them because they settle in after a few thousand kilometres and then they're great for hours. But I know many of you prefer significantly softer saddles.

The brakes are lovely. They come on with a strong, well-judged bite and they're very easy to modulate. You can sometimes feel like hard, sudden braking can cause the front forks to 'fight' weight transfer creating an odd sensation. But this is an easy, predictable motorcycle on every count.

Off-road and touring

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS In off-road terrain, the tubeless spoke rims are well-worth the expense. Unlike an alloy rim, these spokes are flexible and therefore, can survive much larger hits. Kudos to Suzuki for giving them as standard on the 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS

We didn't get too much of an opportunity to bash the V-Strom off-road but we did go and hit a trail on the outskirts of Ajmer for a bit. The V-Strom is a bit jittery at low speeds - my usual pace off-road. But once you find the confidence to crank it up, the stiff ride quality becomes quite absorbent and the grip, behaviour and your ability to lock on to and control the bike standing up are all excellent.

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS Ridden gently off-road, the 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS feels a little stiff and unsure of itself. But what it wants you to do is pick up the pace and then the ability to remain on course in sand or on rocky terrain is a genuine surprise

For touring, again, I think the V-Strom is rather well tuned for our conditions. 80kmph to 130kmph is extremely smooth, and from the digital readout, quite fuel efficient too. With a 20l tank, I think a realistic 360-380km on a well-ridden tankful should be possible and I think that's more than enough. The V-Strom has a three-position adjustable screen. But the tall position didn't work for my peaked helmet - your mileage may vary. Adjusting the screen requires an allen key - that's annoying. Suzuki will be selling panniers as well as a large top box for the 650 in India. This is a solid package!

Verdict

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS The 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS is wonderful to ride long distances with - it has a great engine, a friendly frame and manner, and a sweet price too

Clearly, there are more reasons to buy the V-Strom than to not buy it. At Rs 7.45 lakh, the V-Strom is Rs 76,000 more than the Kawasaki Versys 650. The Kawasaki has vastly superior suspension for the road but with dual 17" wheels, it's meant to be a road-going tourer. In comparison, the Suzuki is more expensive but clearly a lot more value. The 19-17 wheel combination is matched to good on-off-road rubber as well as tubeless spoke rims. The Suzuki also gets traction control, a smidge more torque and power. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that this might be the ultimate, affordable mid-displacement adventure tourer for India. But the reason to pick the Suzuki, outside of all these considerations is a simple one.

2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS The photographs don't show it but the 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS looks compact enough to feel inviting rather than intimidating. That's one of the reasons we think new riders will like this Suzuki

No matter how hard I rode it, through whatever potholes and rocks I failed to avoid, it felt solid. Solid like the rocks it went over. Solid like a bike that would never stop chasing the horizon.

That's always a good reason to get a bike, no?
