2015 Chevy Colorado Gearon Edition
Pickups are perhaps the most highly accessorized vehicles on the market—according to General Motors, the average buyer of a new truck adds roughly $2000 in add-ons before driving their prize off the lot for the first time. And so Chevrolet is fully embracing the opportunity to cajole more money from customers' wallets with its new smaller-than-full-size Colorado.
At the Chicago auto show, Chevy is showing off the Colorado GearOn Special Edition (GOSE, we'll call it), a factory-available truck that comes with a handful of extra items from the GearOn line of accessories, notably a cargo-bed divider, tie-down rings, and in-bed crossbars for mounting bicycles and other toys. Other fillips include a spray-in bedliner and tubular running boards, as well as some cool aesthetic touches—black 18-inch aluminum wheels, a body-color grille, and black bow-tie badges front and rear—that soon will be available as stand-alone accessories on the Colorado. The LT Convenience package rounds out the GOSE, bringing remote start, fog lamps, a rear-window defroster, and an easy-opening tailgate.
The GOSE is available on the LT trim level only, in extended- and crew-cab body styles, with and without four-wheel drive. Starting at $31,125, it'll be available in the spring. (Already for sale on Craigslists everywhere are used versions of this truck's ideal stable-mate, the Pontiac 6000SE—a.k.a. GOOSE.)
The Colorado hasn't been on sale for very long—long enough to have sold fewer than 15,000 copies—but Chevrolet has made sure that the truck is highly visible at a number of auto shows, with sporty, dirty, racy, and watery concepts.
It's nice to see a special Colorado that people can actually buy, although it's too bad the tent and kayak racks shown in the video below aren't part of the deal. After all, what good is having a pickup truck if epic adventures are more than an option-box away?
